Amazon is offering a free year of their Amazon Prime service (normally $79 a year) to any student with a .edu email address. Not only does this give you free 2-day shipping on all orders, but you can also get next day shipping for $3.99: http://www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/i
If you're an avid Amazon shopper, this would be a great time to have free 2-day shipping due to their week long Black Friday Sale.

Can you take D3 coursese that fulfill the university's distribution requirements Pass/Fail, or does that invalidate your ability to apply it to your degree plan as a university requirement?
ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES: RICE INTO THE FUTURE
^ Does anyone know what kind of sustainable group projects we're supposed to undertake in this class? Any past examples? How ambitious are the projects, really?

Is this true:
Nearly all Rice exams are unproctored and professors give timed, closed-book exams that students take home and complete at their own convenience.

Since I'm not guaranteed housing for the fall, I was wondering when's the best time to search for an apartment? I am still hoping to get on-campus, but I'm honestly looking for a bed cheap, but close to the campus. When's the best time to search for this? July? August? Is it too unwise to do it right now, would I get a better deal if I wait until mid-to-end of the summer? Does anyone particularly recommend the database available on Rice's site?
Any tips at all for finding an apartment off-campus? I should mention a) I'm ignorant of Houston's 'good' and 'bad' neighborhood and b) I'm pretty poor. I'm planning on finding a room next to the lightrail. Any specific suggestions (neighborhood wise?). Any admonitions or words of counsel in general for living off-campus?

What level of math does POLI 395 (Stats) emphasize? Calculus? Are the labs difficult if you haven't taken math in a while?
Also, any thoughts on "Nanotechnology: Content and Context" to satisfy the Division III requirement?
Has anyone taken any of the following? Any thoughts?

7:03PM - English
I've been working with a professor and sat in on a class, but I'd love too talk to more English grad students to get some inside thoughts and general opinions concerning the program.

This is the deadest I've seen this community a month before school starts. What's up?
Maybe none of the new freshman have livejournals? Have they all moved to myspace and facebook?

5:47AM - So
Rice is the top remaining seed entering the college world series. Is it going to be more like the summer of 2003 (which was effin awesome) or, well, last year? Anyone going to Omaha? With the juniors leaving it will likely be at least, like, two years until we get back there so hopefully we can make this trip count! :)

The graduate English department offered me admission with tuition and a stipend of 15k early this week. Rice sounds amazing, but the U. of Toronto was also high on my list and they've offered me more money.
Graduate students (especially English and Humanities), how does Rice react to requests to reconsider financial support? I'm not looking for a lot more, just enough to tip the scales. Maybe even just moving/relocating expenses. Some schools expect to negotiate and others are offended by the concept. Which is Rice?
Also, how far does 15k a year go in Houston? Can you live on it?
